Orchard-1 is located at the intersection of two major arterial routes in the Kerikeri area of the far-north of NZ, the "winter-less north".
Bordered on the east by State Highway 10, the main arterial through the world renown Bay of Islands region on the east coast, linking up with State Highway 1. taking travelers through to Cape Reinga where NZ tips its toe into the world's largest ocean, the Pacific.
North facing, capturing the winter sun, this 15 acre kiwifruit orchard has a magnificent, non-planted, high profile north corner area where it is planned to build a factory to produce gender specific, therapeutic grade, NZ manuka and kanuka oil for the production of natural infection control remedies to be packaged as shelf-ready stock-keeping units, (SKU) for export to the US.
Although the "Therapeutic Products Act 2023" is to be repealed by the newly elected, incoming Government in New Zealand, it is essential that the NZ tea Tree oil extraction factory be built to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards.
Taking into account New Zealand's small consumer market and the difficulties that this presents in terms of reaching economy of scale, the repeal of the 2023 law served the nation's smaller Natural Health Product (NHP) manufacturers well. Deferring them the capex pain their Australian counterparts went through in 1989 with the "Therapeutic Goods Act"
The business combination strategy that has been developed to build a NZ tea tree agribiz sector in the far north, will see an existing steam distillation unit relocated to Orchard 1 to commence production.
Pictured in the image to the right is a state-of-the-art steam extraction unit imported from South Africa to process NZ manuka and kanuka biomass foliage in the far-north. When built, this unit will be relocated from its current location on "Waitangi Farm" to "Orchard -1".
Covering an area of over 2,000 acres, this harvest ready, NZ tea tree biomass station is the largest single owner supply source in the whole of NZ. An area more than double the plantation acreage on the country's east coast region where environmentally stressed manuka tea trees produce oils with a high "leptospermone" (aka beta triketone) natural herbicide content to combat invading plant species. Not an issue in the molecular structure of Northland tea tree oils where this toxic chemical in manuka oil is well below global health benchmarks. (Non existent in kanuka oil).
BTW, excuse the Japanese logging company's log harvesting scar to the east of our supply source in this image. Maori land soon to be replanted with native NZ tea tree. Not soil leaching pinus radiata, (Monterrey pine), an introduced exotic of California / eastern Mexico. Unlike native trees, an exotic disease prone, water hungry tree with a root system that is recorded as extending 35M plus in depth to locate subterranean water. In terms of ROI per ha, not even a close match for NZ's highly valuable, environmentally safe, native NZ tea tree. Manuka (for "her"). Kanuka (for "him").
Used as a customary, native health remedy for over 1,000 years.
Globally, demand is growing for Natural Health Products (NHP).
With a colonial settlement history dating back nearly nearly 30 years before the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi between the English Crown and the confederation of Maori Chiefs. On a per capita basis, today. one of the wealthiest rural villages in the country.
The Kerikeri Mission Station is the site of two of the country's oldest surviving buildings - The Stone Store and Kemp House. Dating back to 1820, Kemp House is the oldest "house" in NZ. It adjoins "The Honey Cafe" which we use as a "koffee 'n korero" meeting place.
This page will be updated when the extraction factory site plans and drawings are finalized.
